This book makes learning about Scandinavia, as well as what to see and do once you're there, worth every penny. It's well organized and engaging in a way some travel books are not. The pictures and information are so user-friendly, and so helpful, you're ready to pack your bags and leave for the airport. The maps are clear (both the regional maps and the city maps) and vibrant, as are the photos. If you're interested in the history of Scandinavia (and/or its disparate countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland), there is plenty of information about a part of the world whose history is not as homogenous as you might think.
This isn't the only travel book about Scandinavia, but it sure seems to be one of the better ones. It's a little more expensive for a paperback but well worth it for all you get. As of this writing, the 8th edition of the book came out in July 2009, so the information is still relatively current. And the fact that there have been 8 editions means they've both had a chance to get it right as well as find out what readers think.
Highly recommended.
