I used this as a textbook for one of my classes that I teach. It was a great tool in helping the students understand the history and the many different avenues for motion graphics work. The book is full of colorful examples in both print and the companion DVD. It also contains information on design principles for both still and motion graphic work. I consider it a great resource for anyone interested in learning how to successfully create motion graphics. This is not a software specific book, but a general knowledge approach. I highly recommend you taking a look into this book if you are interested in motion graphics, or just want a refresher on some design aspects you may be overlooking.
