Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength Review

Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Body for Life" is an excellent book if you're a fitness beginner who's trying to figure out how to get in shape and stay in shape or, perhaps, someone who's been working out and/or dieting for a while and doesn't seem to be making much headway towards losing weight and getting in shape. Phillips does a good job of explaining the basic building blocks of fitness and of debunking a lot of the more prevalent fitness myths. He covers the proper way to exercise, both aerobics and weight training, proper diet, not some fad diet but rather how to eat real food in a healthy way, and how to motivate yourself and keep yourself motivated to stick to your goals.
There are a few caveats, however.
This is a very basic book. Don't think you're going to read this book and then know everything you need to know about fitness. It gives you a good foundation to build on but it doesn't go much beyond that. In my opinion that's a good thing given the book's target audience of fitness beginners. It gives you enough information to get started but it doesn't overwhelm you with data. Be aware that once you get into the program and have a better feel for your specific needs, you may find yourself seeking other books for more information but with the information you get from "Body for Life", you'll be able to make better selections of what type of books to look for. If you're already in good shape, chances are you already know everything that's in this book and if there is something you don't know, it won't be worth the price to find out.
Phillips owns a company which manufactures nutritional supplements. Not surprisingly he pushes the use of supplements in this book. There's nothing wrong with using supplements but they're expensive and not really necessary. They may accelerate the process but you'll still get into shape following the program without them.
Fitness is a lifelong commitment. Don't look at the title of the book and think you're going to get into perfect shape in only 12 weeks. Phillips' program is about using those 12 weeks to develop a fitness program you can stick to for the rest of your life. Ideally, when you finish one 12 week program you'll immediately begin another 12 week program and so on until it's not a 12 week program but a way of life.
If you're a fitness beginner and not certain where to begin or someone who's been working out for a little while but doesn't seem to be making any headway towards your fitness goals, this is the book for you. It offers good solid information on the basics of fitness and how to set and achieve your goals. I highly recommend this book.

For men, broad shoulders and muscular arms are the archetype for strength and power. For women, the sagging underarm is one of the most common trouble spots. For both, defined deltoids make the waist appear smaller and separate the arm from the shoulder, creating an athletic and healthy look. Body-concious modern fashions make training the shoulders and arms a priority for everyone. The Complete Book of Shoulders and Arms is the definitive resource to train these muscles safely. Each exercise is illustrated in detail, ranked for difficulty, flagged for lower-back risk and accompanied by explicit instructions and specific training tips to achieve optimal results. The exercise routines are based on the most current research in sports medicine/exercise physiology and were created by top strength coaches, athletes, personal trainers, exercise physiologists, doctors, physical therapists and nutritionists. Programs are designed for everyone from the novice to the advanced enthusiast, for the corporate executive with time-crunched schedules and for the senior concerned with wellness.

Yoga Stretch for Fitness Review

Yoga Stretch for Fitness

I purchased this off iTunes, but will probably get the CD since the recording on iTunes includes some rather loud additions from the producers. But, this is a wonderful yoga routine and I would highly recommend it for everyone!
You start out with breath work, then move on to some very mellow yoga movements and postures. I love the music on the recording and Beth Shaw's voice is very soothing as she talks you through this routine. The sound quality is very good. It's about an hour in length and even non-yogini's will be able to follow along. I use this as a morning yoga routine since it is very mellow and a great way to start your day. Most of the stretching and postures are done on the floor, but some warrior/standing postures also included. Very much worth the price for this product.

Brain Fitness: Anti-Aging to Fight Alzheimer's Disease, Supercharge Your Memory, Sharpen Your Intelligence, De-Stress Your Mind, Control Mood Swings, and Much More
Average Reviews:

The author needs to determine who his audience is. The book seems to be aimed at young people seeking to achieve and maintain 'super mind power'. The title (anti-aging) appeals to those of us who are experiencing 'brain fog' and want it to stop. While the tests will confirm or rebut our suspicions that something is wrong, the author suggests only the same-old home remedies - diet, vitamins and herbs, destress - that I have been using for years already. The mental excersizes are a bad joke - things I used to love doing when my mind was functional are now proposed as excersizes - which I couldn't do if my life depended upon it. There is nothing suggested in the way of medical treatment or what to tell a doctor to convince them that 'something is wrong'. Many things I have read about, found to be helpful and consider somewhat more cutting-edge - like oxygen therapy or the debate regarding the danger in dental fillings - are not even mentioned. Human growth hormone is dismissed in one sentance. If I believed this book, I would give up all hope.

Our 20 year old daughter has had chronic fatigue syndrome for over four years and we have tried treatment programs on offer by medical practitioners and a number of alternative therapists without any real success to date. A couple of months ago, I came across Alexandra Barton's book and found it to be very well written, easy to read and full of fresh ideas in terms of what other people have done to get on top of CFS. In addition, after reading the book I had a number of questions relating to our daughter that I emailed through to the author, and she very kindly got back to me with some more helpful information that we plan to use. Thank you Alexandra for putting this wonderful resource together and for being so committed to helping other people with CFS.Graeme Knight, Perth, Western Australia

Recovery from CFS - 50 Personal Stories is a simple collection of recovery stories from people who have recovered from CFS/ME. Men, women and children from six different countries who were all diagnosed with CFS/ME and who were ill for between 2 and 25 years, have written their own individual and very different accounts of their return to good health and a normal life. At the end of each account they have offered advice, suggested helpful books and websites, and many have even given contact details for readers needing support. The foreword is written by Dr Jacob Teitelbaum, Medical Director of the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers, Inc. USA. Dr Teitelbaum had CFS himself as a medical student and is one of the world's foremost experts in CFS. Two of the stories are written by doctors, including that of Dr Clare Fleming who edited two reports from the UK National Task Force and who contributed to the Action for ME rehabilitation courses. There is also the miraculous story of canoeist Anna Hemmings who returned to win the world championship Gold medal nine months after recovering from CFS. 20% of the book proceeds go to CFS/ME research

The Frailty Myth: Redefining the Physical Potential of Women and Girls Review

The Frailty Myth: Redefining the Physical Potential of Women and Girls
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In "The Frailty Myth," Colette Dowling presents a compelling and well-researched analysis of why and how American girls are socialized to be "weak." Dowling examines the myths about the "weaker sex," tracing this myth as a source of the oppression of women handed down to us from Victorian times.
She convincingly explains why men fear strong women: In part, she says, it's because strength is perhaps the only area in which our culture does not say that men and women are equal. Thus, as male-only professions and traits are rapidly disappearing from public discourse, strength is masculinity's last hope.
Further, she carefully details how the media, parents, educators and peers of both sexes encourage girls to be passive and boys to be active (often without realizing it), and gives ample evidence that there is no physiological basis for the belief that women are fated to be weaker than men. It is, in essence, a mere self-fulfilling prophecy.
After demonstrating the mental and physical unhealthiness of this cycle, the author provides advice on breaking out of it. To illustrate the possibilities, she offers inspiring stories of women and girls who have become strong, breaking into "male" sports like football and even playing on co-ed teams.
This book is well-written, well-organized, and an important read for anyone with a daughter or an interest in women's issues. At the very least, it might encourage you to spend more time at the gym -- that's one of the many beneficial things it did for me!

Can women be equal to men as long as men are physically stronger? And are men, in fact, stronger? These are key questions that Colette Dowling, author of the bestselling The Cinderella Complex, raises in her provocative new book. The myth of female frailty, with its roots in nineteenth-century medicine and misogyny, has had a damaging effect on women's health, social status, and physical safety. It is Dowling's controversial thesis that women succumb to societal pressures to appear weak in order to seem more "feminine."The Frailty Myth presents new evidence that girls are weaned from the use of their bodies even before they begin school. By adolescence, their strength and aerobic powers have started to decline unless the girls are exercising vigorously--and most aren't. By sixteen, they have already lost bone density and turned themselves into prime candidates for osteoporosis. They have also been deprived of motor stimulation that is essential for brain growth.Yet as breakthroughs among elite women athletes grow more and more astounding, it begins to appear that strength and physical skill--for all women--is only a matter of learning and training. Men don't have a monopoly on physical prowess; when women and men are matched in size and level of training, the strength gap closes. In some areas, women are actually equipped to outperform men, due partly to differences in body structure, and partly to the newly discovered strengthening benefits of estrogen.Drawing on extensive research in motor development, performance assessment, sports physi-ology, and endocrinology, Dowling presents an astonishing picture of the new physical woman. And she creates a powerful argument that true equality isn't possible until women learn how to stand up for themselves--physically.

Living through the Racket: How I Survived Leukemiaand Rediscovered My Self
Average Reviews:

I was lucky enough to have been given an advance copy of this book, and have since sung its praises to everyone I know. I am not a big tennis (or even sports) fan, but I am a sucker for a good story. Corina is a dynamic woman who has overcome much in her life and enjoyed great success. Yet I found her incredibly relatable; no matter what she was going through, be it leukemia treatments or a Wimbledon victory, I felt like I was right there with her. While women will relate to her journey to independence and sports fans will thrill at her depictions of being a pro tennis player, this book will inspire anyone who reads it. I highly recommend it.

She was 23 and at the height of her professional tennis career—a top-30 singles player, the #1 ranked doubles player in the world in 2000, and the winner of Grand Slam titles at both Wimbledon in 1999 with Lindsay Davenport, and the Australian Open Mixed doubles in 2001.
Then, in May 2001, Corina Morariu was diagnosed with an advanced form of acute myelogenous leukemia and found herself in the match of a lifetime. After a grueling regimen of chemotherapy, Corina returned to competitive tennis 16 months after her diagnosis. She was named the WTA Tour Comeback Player of the Year in 2002, but the effects of the leukemia lingered. On the court, she struggled to come to terms with the cancer and two subsequent shoulder surgeries that diminished her physical capabilities as a tennis player. Off the court, she struggled to redefine herself in the wake of her trauma.
In this honest, unsparing memoir, Corina opens up about what it's like to be an athlete diagnosed with cancer, and how her battle with leukemia changed her in every way. She reassessed everything: her devotion to tennis, her lifelong mission to be the perfect daughter, even her marriage. She took charge of her own life, often with devastating consequences to her and those she loved most.
In the end, leukemia gave this world-class athlete much more than it took away—the challenge to look deeper within herself, and the strength to change her life—and she reveals the extraordinary lessons she learned along the way. It is Corina's journey of self-discovery that will make her story incredibly poignant and uplifting to everyone who reads it—tennis player or not.
Leukemia brought Corina to the brink of death . . . but ultimately it saved her life.

Timeless Running Wisdom Review

Timeless Running Wisdom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Timeless Running Wisdom is a collection of two dozen essays that cover a wide variety of running topics. At first glance, some of the individual titles seem to contradict each other (Chapter 17: Run Alone; Chapter 18: Run Together), but taken as a whole the reader learns that very contradiction is inevitable and understandable. Anyone who wants to run successfully for decades needs to realize that there is a time to race and a time to run without a clock, a time to run regularly and a time to take time off. As I often tell students in my writing classes: the only rule is there are no rules.
Author Rich Benyo has a storied past in relation to distance running and is race director for a very well known marathon, and while 26.2 mile races are mentioned in the book they are not the focus. Indeed, the lessons therein can be used by professional ultra runners just as easily as by neighborhood 5K runners. In addition to the author's plainspoken wit and wisdom, a number of famous--and famously successful--runners (including Joe Henderson, Joan Benoit-Samuelson, and Dean Karnazes) contribute to different sections to add their own keen insight.
Each essay is neatly summarized with a few key points titled "For Your Consideration," and the book concludes with three very useful sections: glossary, running quotes, and a bibliography of other great reads. Whether it is read from start to finish or sampled like a high quality buffet, Rich Benyo's latest is destined to be a favorite and highly useful book no matter what kind of runner you are.
Resting on a small table by the side of my bed, Timeless Running Wisdom has helped me remember why I run, prodded me to slip out of my running outfit in order to volunteer and spectate at races, and even gotten me into my shoes and out the door on a few mornings when I might otherwise have slept in. This will be a reference book that I go back to regularly. It is a powerful motivator.

The All-Pro Diet: Lose Fat, Build Muscle, and Live Like a Champion Review

The All-Pro Diet: Lose Fat, Build Muscle, and Live Like a Champion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tony Gonzalez, 80% Vegan NFL Player
All Pro Tony Gonzolez and the KC Chief's Nutritionist, Mitzi Dulan collaborated on The All-Pro Diet: Lose Fat, Build Muscle, and Live Like a Champion. For years, Gonzalez ate red meat, pizza, fast food, "whatever was plentiful and convenient." Concerned about his health, Gonzolez changed his diet. The book describes his experiments in creating his new life style, and describes how it improved his already sterling record in the NFL.
His diet emphasizes vegetables and grains, and limits animal protein to omega-3 rich fish, grass-fed chicken and meat, omega-3 enriched eggs, and some low-fat dairy. The authors also recommend a number of plant-based protein supplements.
As a successful adopter of the South Beach life style (loss of 40 pounds and greatly improved blood levels over the past six months), I found the book a useful checklist of healthy foods and a source of new suggestions for improving an already good thing. I've discovered that regularly reading books on nutrition keeps my interest in healthy eating alive, and very importantly helps maintain my weight.
A few of the useful ideas I found in Gonzales's book:
The Top 10 Best Foods (in no particular order); my addenda in brackets:
1. Blueberries [and blackberries]
2. Broccoli [and broccoli sprouts]
3. Legumes [and Beano!]
4. Oats [steel cut oatmeal and/or oat bran]
5. Oranges
6. Spinach [kale and especially Swiss chard]
7. Sweet potatoes
8. Tomatoes
9. Walnuts
10. Wild salmon [and lower on the food chain with less mercury, sardines]
[I would replace oranges with chia seeds on this list, a wonderfully healthy food; Chia: Rediscovering a Forgotten Crop of the Aztecs is a useful introduction to this nutritious food. The Cleveland Clinic publishes a similar list of the 40 "Best" foods for heart health.]
All-Pro Snack Ideas
One whole wheat pita with two tablespoons of hummus
1'4 cup walnuts or almonds
Ten baby carrots [or several celery stalks] with three tablespoons of hummus
1'3 cup guacamole with 12 multi-grain or sweet potato tortilla chips
For folks who don't want to make their own snacks, Gonzales recommends several commercial snacks, including:
Raw Revolution
LÄRABAR
CLIF Nectar
YouBar
Gnu Bar
PURE Bar
Prana Bar
Zing Bar
A couple of cautions: energy bars change their ingredients from time to time; it pays to learn how to read the ingredient list on the energy bar on offer and avoid those bars with high levels of simple sugar which will quickly raise your blood sugar levels and make you hungry in a hour or so. And, as a South Beach devotee, I've been shocked at the list of ingredients on the Kraft South Beach energy bars - they are high in fiber but contain a great deal of sugar - none of them are really "permitted" according to the principles laid out in Dr. Agaston's books.
Gonzales is a believer in smoothies, and one of his favorites is a cup of hemp milk with 3'4 of a frozen banana. A fancier example is called Mizi's Berrylicious Smoothie:
1 cup hemp milk or organic 1% cow's milk
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1 scoop protein powder (hemp or whey)
1 large handful fresh baby spinach
Blend well and enjoy!
Per 16 Ounce Serving: 282 calories, 29 g protein, 41 g carbohydrates, 3 g fat
Gonzales credits Dr. T Colin Campbell and his The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health with inspiring his successful change in his diet. The "China Study" is dense and filled with facts, but a very useful read if you want to understand the science underlying the importance of eating vegan: "people who eat mostly plants have fewer deadly diseases than those who eat animals." "The Wall Street Journal" and the excellent Healthy Happy Long Life blog written by a medical librarian [links in the first comment] provide a tremendous amount of additional information.
This book won't make you one of the highest paid players in the NFL, of course, but anyone who has successfully lost weight knows that keeping that weight off is a major challenge. This is an excellent resource for helping one both lose weight and more importantly keeping it off.
Robert C; Ross 2009

A perennial Pro-Bowler, NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez has been an unstoppable force for all of his 12 years in the NFL. But for a long time, he ate like an average American: red meat, pizza, fast food, whatever was plentiful and convenient. Concerned about his long-term, post-career health, Tony decided to change his diet. With the help of Mitzi Dulan, nutritionist for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals, Tony embarked on a revolutionary new clean-eating and exercise regimen that changed his life, elevated his physical and mental performance, and resulted in dramatic, measurable improvements on and off the field. It was this dietary change that led him to break two NFL records—most touchdowns and receptions by any tight end in NFL history—in a single season.

50 Athletes over 50 Teach Us to Live a Strong, Healthy Life Review

50 Athletes over 50 Teach Us to Live a Strong, Healthy Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Fortunately, while people are generally living longer, there has not been as significant a corresponding decline in the quality of that life. The extra years are generally not spent in a state of weakness that has some percentage of being an invalid. This fact is common knowledge, what is not so well known is that many people can remain athletically competitive over the age of fifty, sometimes decades over. This book is a case study of fifty such people.
Granted, there has been some "cherry-picking" of the representatives, but that does not change the fact that it is proven that it is possible for humans to remain active to the point of being athletic several decades after hitting their fiftieth birthday. Some of these people even had to overcome serious injuries from auto and other accidents. The overwhelming message from the acts of these people is that determination is generally more important that the physical aspects of your body. In chapter 10, Dr. Vonda Wright M. D. makes statistical arguments to support the position that "Only 30% of how we age is determined by genetics, while the remaining 70% is determined by the lifestyle choices we make." Furthermore, Wright also uses data supporting the point that, "Masters athletes' performance declined less than 2% a year for both men and women from age 50 to 75. Then, after the age of 75, something else happened. Their performance suddenly dropped by 8% a year."
These statistics point out that it is not only possible to remain extremely active after the age of fifty, but something that should be done. While it is true that not everyone can remain as active and competitive as the 50 portrayed here, together they are an existence proof that it is possible. Even old dogs need role models, and these are some very good ones.

I have just about every book on the topic of sports performance.
I've read others that were more impactful and helpful.
Granted, this book is good if you're just looking for some inspiration that might eventually lead you to results. For immediate results to use on one's game, however, this book isn't it!
As another reviewer said, it's clumsily written. For my hard earned money, I'd like something that I can actually use on my game right away.
If you're a couch potato athlete that only watches a game, this book is probably good. My brother-in-law loves it. He's never played a sport in his life, but is a big fan. For competitive athletes who are more interested in RESULTS and can get their cliches from TV announcers, this book isn't for them.
I'd give it one star, but those who've met the guy seem to like him enough to log onto amazon and write a review. Nothing personal, but I can't give this anything like the rating the others did.

Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Nutrition provides readers with a preparatory look at the exciting field of sport and exercise nutrition, including its foundational concepts and the diverse career options available. With this one-stop resource, students thinking of entering the field, athletes, and those working with athletes will gain a basic understanding of how nutrition affects sport performance and exercise training. They will also see how this knowledge is put to work in today's sport environment.

The text provides an overview of the field without getting into the more complicated, scientific details. It blends current and evidence-based information and the application of that information to athletes in various sports. The goal of the book is not only to cover the basics of sport and fitness nutrition but to inspire readers to continue their exploration of the topic.

Chapters 1 and 2 define the field of sport and exercise nutrition, the kinds of jobs available, and the education necessary for those jobs. Chapters 3 to 8 cover the essential nutrients of sport and exercise nutrition (carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and balance of water, electrolytes, and fluid) as well as energy balance and imbalance. The remaining chapters cover body weight and body composition, unhealthy eating practices, and the future of sport and exercise nutrition. Because sport nutrition is a young scientific field, the information can sometimes appear to be confusing, contradictory, incomplete, and even unknown. With this text, readers will get the most up-to-date answers to common questions on weight loss, supplements, sport drinks, and other popular issues.

Each chapter of the text summarizes the latest scientific literature and then translates that information into practices that can be used by athletes, coaches, trainers, physicians, and other professionals. Throughout the book are many features that enhance the learning experience and show readers how sport nutrition is used in today's world:

• Numerous boxes highlight interesting topics, myths, and popular beliefs.

• Success Stories showcase individuals who have been successful in the field, how they got to where they are, and how they spend a typical day.

• Sidebars draw attention to interesting trivia and debatable topics.

• An appendix explores how other professions might use sport and exercise nutrition in their work.

Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Nutrition is the second book in Human Kinetics' Fundamentals of Sport and Exercise Science series. The series helps students and professionals understand the basic topics, goals, and applications of the many subdisciplines in kinesiology. This and other books in the series provide a solid grounding that readers can use as a jumping-off point for further study.

Your body is supposed to enjoy getting and staying fit! The author gives a number of instructions on how to do just that. His argument for nasal breathing, even at top exertion, is alone worth the price of the book. The many testamonials from athletes who've used the author's instructions successfully shows that I'm not the only one it's worked for.

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit Review

Turbo Jam Maximum Results Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I HATED EXERCISING. But, I'm getting a little older (early 30s), and I finally realized that it's time to lose some weight and do it the healthy way!! I came home from work one morning and saw the infomercial for Turbo Jam on television. I thought this might actually be...dare I say...FUN exercise???
I did a little research and read from many sources that purchasing it directly from Beach Body is a nightmare (credit cards overcharged, horrible customer service, no one speaks English), and I was a little dismayed. I saw that here on Amazon, the cheapest I could find the "Maximum Results" was over $100 with shipping! I was getting frustrated now. Well, I reluctantly went to Ebay (fearful of the increasing number of knock-offs and fraudulent sellers) and found this complete set for $68 (including shipping=).
So, when the set arrived, I opened it and thought, "Geez...not a lot for my $70..." -- two separate DVD cases, some little blue weighted gloves, some books, and a tape measure. Hmm. Had I been taken? Great. Another exercise fad that got my money. But...wait...
I took the time to look through everything before passing judgment. There may have only been two DVD cases, but I found that there is a comprehensive instructional series (the "Learn" part of the "Learn and Burn") which instructs the "Elite 11" moves (on which the entire program is based). The chapters are set so that if you didn't quite understand a move, you hit the "back" button once, and it will take you back to the beginning of that particular move (not to the start of the DVD). Well, at least that's the case with my set! Following the "Learn" is the "Burn", which takes the moves you've just learned and speeds them up just a bit. The moves are slowly integrated into a workout of just under 20 minutes. The first time I tried it, I was a little frustrated. The second and third times, I started liking it. By the fourth time, I had it down, and I was HOOKED. ME...THE HATER OF EXERCISE=0
Next is a 20 minute workout to burn a LOT of calories when time is limited. Again, first couple of times are a challenge. After you get the hang of it, it is just fun.
Still, in the first DVD case is the Turbo Sculpt, which is 40 minutes of "slowed down" toning; Cardio Party, which is 45 minutes of high energy aerobics; and Ab Jam, which is 20 minutes of, well, ab work. After the first time of doing these, I found muscles I didn't know I had!! I felt it the next day, but in a good way.
Finally, the second DVD case has "Punch, Kick, & Jam." This REALLY kicks up the workout...especially when you add the resistance bands (not included, but very inexpensive) and those little blue gloves. Obviously, this one tires me out a lot more, but, again, it's always in a good way.
Your instructor in all of this is Chalene Johnson. When I first saw her, I thought, "Okay...you're going to annoy me." WRONG!! She's cutesy, but NOT in a way that makes you want to slap her around!! She's actually quite fun and motivating. She seems like one of those people who would add to the energy of any room by just walking in. She's positive without being too cheesy and fake.
I have to say that I was quite impressed with the music. I've done TONS of exercise videos, and oftentimes, the music is an afterthought. Here, it is obviously a main focus in the production of these videos. It's energized house music that really does make it seem like..well...a party!
The DVDs include some "behind the scene" stuff, meeting Chalene and the cast and a little more on their lives. Sure, it's a little fluff and self-promotive, but after the workouts, I found that I was actually interested in this. Seeing them all as "real" people made me like them all a little bit more.
So, making this long review even longer...
The "books" included the Turbo Results Guidebook and Turbo Slim 10-day Kick Start.
The guidebook has some really good information in it. Again, it breaks down the "Elite 11". It's in a little different way (obviously. it's in a book.), so it does help to see it explained even further than in the instructional video. It also gives food recommendations for both your diet at home and for dining out. While I don't follow it to the letter, it is definitely a helpful guideline.
I have to say that I haven't tried the Turbo Slim as of yet. I haven't found QUITE that much motivation quite yet. However, in reviewing it, it doesn't look "un-do-able". It outlines ten days of eating and exercise (and the foods can be interchanged if you'd like). The claim is that one can lose up to 10 inches in 10 days. Again, I can't say for sure how this works. Maybe I will eventually try it, and I'll update my review.
In conclusion, I don't work for Turbo Jam, and Chalene isn't my cousin or anything like that. I wrote such a lengthy review because I want people to know exactly what is offered in this set. Every exercise program has its downfalls, and maybe I'll find more in this series after a few more months of doing it. But I've fallen off the wagon so many times because I've gotten bored or annoyed. I've been doing Turbo Jam 5-6 times a week since I've gotten it (even doing two or three of the workouts at a time) because it really is just that enjoyable! I can feel myself getting stronger, and I can see my clothes fitting better. When I'm done doing it, I feel fatigued, but not "dead". After the initial fatigue, I really do feel energized to do more with my day. I'm 1/3 of the way to my "goal weight", and I'm confident that I'm going to get there.
