'Life Changers' written by Harold Begbie and republished by Carl "Tuchy" Palmieri and funded by [...] has been reprinted 12 times and is 100 years old but still is being read and is still helping to change lives. The book is about Frank Buchman, referred to as FB throughout, a man who had the ability to change lives of many through his teachings of self will and Christianity. This is a spiritual book and makes one question your own will and ability to change your life yourself. It is more about your own relationship with God and how you view your life than about a certain religion. It talks about sin and good and bad actions. FB's interpretation may be a little different than yours but it makes you think and possibly want to change your life. The stories are interesting but I found them a little hard to focus on them without wanting to put the book down for awhile. It is a good book to discuss with others and to take your time reading.

Life Changers is also about a man, Frank Buchman, who was first and foremost a teacher.Buchman could change the lives of students and scholars in the course of a single conversation; changing those lives so profoundly and persuasively that the world was in disbelief.Buchman started a movement that reached the shores of America and lives today in the form of many 12-step programs. While the original movement was founded on Christianity, its principles and ideas moved beyond religion and Christianity into a more generic spiritual movement.

I ordered this book on the recommendation of a friend. I could not put it down and raced through it in two days! I then began to read it again. This time I made myself read it slowly and reflectively and savored the poetry and wisdom of each story.
I now keep the book within reach on my desk. When I feel overwhelmed with work and the mundane details of life, I look at the cover and smile. The joyous abandon of the women on the cover reminds me to take a break and play with friends. When I feel unappreciated and tense, I randomly read a highlighted section. I always take away a bit of lyric wisdom that never fails to brighten my spirits.
Thank you, Barbara, for sharing your hard-earned wisdom and the secrets of the Blackberry Tea Club!
Namaste'

Mid-life crisis is not a crisis-it is a passage into joy. This was the essential truth discovered by the four women of a certain age, founding members of the Blackberry Tea Club, which began as late-night conversations while sipping blackberry tea with a little kick added. Those conversations about children, men, jobs, weight, clothes, food, travel, gossip, politics, medicine, healing, spirituality, adventure, and books grew slowly, beautifully into the Blackberry Tea Club and the discovery of the Glory Years. The Blackberry Tea Club weaves together essays, stories, and poetry, celebrating mid-life in all its silliness, sorrow, and glory. Bottom line: middle age is much more than menopause. These are the Glory Years for women, years that bring about the expansion and reorganizing of the mind, heart, and spirit, and the birthing of a larger self of immense compassion, intellect, will, spirit, love, and capability.Divided into five parts, each one explores different themes:* Seeing mid-life crisis as an adamant search for joy* Discovering opportunities for women to appreciate their bodies* Exploring multiple facets of love* Letting go of the bad stuff to relish "what light there is"The Blackberry Tea Club offers stories of adventure, food, spirit, and the community of women in their Glory Years.

Chicken Soup for the Golfer's Soul, The 2nd Round: 101 More Stories of Insight, Inspiration and Laughter on the Links

Good, light read, but not as good as the first round (Book I).
These stories are longer, not as short, catchy or memorable as Book I. The first book was filled with birdies and an eagle or two. This one is heavy on pars with a few birdies. In short, it is very much a sequal.
This does not mean it does not have its merits. Stories are good, and one, "The Life and Times of a Golf Ball" is outstanding, alone worth the price of the book.
Buy the book, read and enjoy. It's good, but not as good as the first. Great reading for what Sir Winston Churchill would call "the smallest room in the house!"

Man Does Not Live by Sports Alone: Devotions for Men Review

Man Does Not Live by Sports Alone: Devotions for Men
Average Reviews:

I love the quotation from Billy Graham in the opening pages of this book: "Whatever you love most. Be it sports, pleasure, business or God. That is your god." It's true most men live and breath sports and if it's playing on television, then you have it turned on in your home.
Here's the perfect gift for this type of person because it uses sports examples to spur godly living. Thirty devotions or chapters are included and each one includes a series of thought-provoking questions (called the warmup) followed by a brief devotion (called going deep, with a recap (a summary thought), an "in the huddle" section (where you consider the application to the devotional thought), a game plan (where you pick up some ideas to apply it to your life), and finally a page called game notes, where you write your personal thoughts from the reading.
Anyone can complete a chapter in a few minutes--either early in the morning or on a lunch break or in the evening. Each chapter is well-written and applicable to any sports-loving man.

A GODLY GAME PLAN FOR THE MANLY MAN OK, guys, this book's for you. It's designed especially for manly men who love sports -- guys who'd rather watch Peyton Manning and Kurt Schilling than some fluffy chick flick. You're into NFL receivers, the best arms in the Majors, the best guards in the NBA, and NASCAR drivers. But you're also a guy who tries to spend time in God's Word and get your plays called by the Coach upstairs. Dennis "The Swan" Swanberg has you and your sports-minded buddies in mind in Man Does Not Live by Sports Alone, because this upbeat, humorous book isn't just about guy stuff; it's also about God stuff. Thirty personal devotionals double as springboards for accountability-group discussion with your friends about God's playbook. Each devotional contains: • A Word from the Coach in a key Bible text • Warmups questions to ponder and sports-related quotes • Going Deep thought and heart challenges • Recap summaries and reinforcing scriptures • In the Huddle discussion starters • Game Plan life applications • And Game Notes pages to record your thoughts and responses This book offers a game plan for tackling the tough issues in the game of life and will help you do more than just stay in the game -- it will give you strategies for being a winner! It's not enough to be a manly man who talks about manly stuff. You've also got to be a godly man who talks and thinks about God stuff. When you do, you'll be a winner in the game of life. -- The Swan

Live Albom: The Best of Detroit Free Press Sports Columnist Mitch Albom Review

Live Albom: The Best of Detroit Free Press Sports Columnist Mitch Albom

Being that I'm not much of a sports fan unless it's hockey, I wondered if I would be bored by this book. Quite the contrary! Mitch has the uncanny knack of drawing his readers in and making them feel as if they are part of the story. I laughed out loud on more than one occasion and wanted to cry after reading some selections. I found myself deeply interested in columns about sports I detest. Mitch is truly the most talented sports writer in the country, and possibly the best overall writer as well.
