We used this book a lot to preview sights we were planning on seeing and for the most part it was accurate in the description.

My husband and I together with our 8 year old son recently moved to the Chicago area. So, we decided that the best way to familiarize ourselves was to take day trips each weekend. Our objective was to see what our new surroundings had to offer without boring our son. We found Ms. Drake's "Day Trips From Chicago" on Amazon and it is a goldmine of valuable and entertaining information. We have used it every weekend and found some great trips which captured our son's interest as well as our own.

Classic Motorsport Routes: 30 Legendary Routes You Can Drive Today Review

Classic Motorsport Routes: 30 Legendary Routes You Can Drive Today

I really enjoyed reading this book, it is worth every penny in my opinion, because it is so unique among car enthusiast books. Is it perfect? No. Is it an inspiration for a good road trip or vacation to see and drive these legendary roads? Hell YES!
First of all, this book is not a complete comprehensive list of ALL great racetracks and driving routes. Rather it is a list of 30 of the best roads that you or me or anyone can drive because they remain public roads. Some racetracks are not included since they are still dedicated racetracks, courses not open to the public. However, every single road in this book you can and will want to drive after reading. For example; Le Mans, Spa, Nurburgring, Monaco, Mount Panorama are all here with great maps showing you how to get to and drive the racetrack.
The maps included in the book supplement the fantastic photos, but they are not perfect. I often used Google Earth to check for more details after reading each chapter. Another minor annoyance was that the author often mentioned extra rally stages in the text, describing their grandeur and epic scenery but failed to include all of the stages on the maps for the rallies.
Can these minor faults be forgiven? Sure. If you have a passion for automobiles, racing history, love driving and wish you could follow in the footsteps of Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Villeneuve, Senna etc then this is a book you MUST read.

These are the routes the great drivers have taken on their race to glory. Classic Motorsport Routes revisits the most spectacular circuits, roads, and tracks that have helped shape more than a century of racing--from the road races of the Mille Miglia and the Targa Florio to the grueling hillclimbs of Grossglockner and America's own legendary Pikes Peak, to the rallies of Monte Carlo and Spain, to the Grand Prix circuits from Monaco to Germany and the record-breaking courses of the Bonneville Salt Flats and the Frankfurt-Darmstadt Autobahn. Here are maps charting thirty routes across four continents, inviting readers to follow in the paths of the world's automotive greats--or simply to sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery as it unfolds on these pages. From the majestic Rocky Mountains of North America to the haunting pine forests of Northern Europe to the sun-baked villages of Sicily, this book by premier motoring writer Richard Meaden gives readers a thrilling close-up look at the routes that so many great drivers have followed--and continue to follow--into the annals of racing history.
