This is a great book. The information is top notch. All the skills are presented in easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. I don't really have a problem with the photos either. I do think it's important that people know that this isn't a new book from the McPhersons, it is "Naked into the Wilderness" Primitive Wilderness Living & Survival Skills. The only new thing in this book is the title. All the information is the same, they've just changed the order of the chapters. Hopefully this information will save others from spending their hard earned cash on this book (plus international shipping) only to find that they already have the same book with a different cover sitting on the shelf.

EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT SURVIVING IN THE WILD"During my first years of learning survival I took a course in survival and primitive earth skills taught by John and Geri McPherson.I was excited by their unbelievable passion and their intrinsic understanding of survival.Their teachings took me from understanding basic skills to a full-blown love for the ancient technologies that humans developed to survive.John and Geri are the real deal. They don't just teach this stuff, they live it.I loved the experience with them so much I came back a second time a few years later. Now that I have traveled the world as Survivorman-experiencing and filming survival in every ecosystem there is-I can sit back and watch my shows and see John and Geri's teachings peek through in every situation.I have been able to understand survival because of John and Geri, and can highly recommend this book."--Les Stroud, AKA SurvivormanPacked with in-depth instruction and photos, Ultimate Guide to Wilderness Living teaches you the skills need to survive and live in the wild using only those things found in the woods.Learn how to:•Ignite a fire with a two-stick hand drill•Erect temporary and semi-permanent

Country Wisdom & Know-How Review

Country Wisdom and Know-How

If you could gather up the wisdom of the many generations of farmers, ranchers, outdoorsmen, homesteaders, and mountain-men and put it into a book you would end up with a book like this. While this is not as thorough as the multi-volume sets like the older Foxfire series, it is one of the most complete single-volume works available. The text is small in order to cram all the information into this oversized almost 500 page book but it is still readable and very interesting. The book is divided into the six major sections of animals, cooking, crafts, gardening, health and well-being, and home. Each of these major divisions is subdivided into multiple more detailed sections. For example, the animals section includes information on attracting desirable animals such as humming birds, building bird shelters, feeding birds while preventing squirrels from robbing the feeder, getting rid of problem animals, taking care of your pets, herbal treatments for dog problems, rabbit husbandry, horsemanship, raising chickens and ducks, beekeeping, and butchering. Each section is similarly detailed with the gardening section being particularly large. Country Wisdom and Know-How is an indispensable reference volume for anyone interested in country living and is highly recommended.

I read this book while working on a mineral exploration survey in Northern Saskatchewan in 1974. The author and his brother preceded me by some 50-80 years. However many things about this wonderful part of Canada had not changed and it was easy to identify and imagine being with these fellows as they learned how to live and trap in the bush.... The writing is quite plain; but as the events are real they carry the book... (imagine your bro going lala while you are 500 miles away from the nearest civilizatioin...) Highly reconmended for anyone who loves the wilderness and adventure.... I believe I still have a copy kicking around here somewhere... Does anyone know how many copies where printed?

Originally published in 1970, North to Cree Lake is the true story of two brothers who embark on the adventure of a lifetime. The onset of the Great Depression meant there were few opportunities for young men on the prairies, so the pair decided to pursue their dream of trapping in the North.
This is a vividly recounted tale of life in the northern Saskatchewanwilderness, "the old North, land of mystery and deep silences" only accessible by canoe in summer, by dog team in winter, or by aircraft. The young men embrace the challenges of travelling in the North, and not only survive, but thrive.North to Cree Lake is full of fascinating details about everyday life in the North - what they ate, how they travelled, how to prepare moose nose - and offers insights into the men who chose to live in such an isolated and perilous region.Karras wrote North to Cree Lake many years after he left northern Saskatchewan, but the clarity of his memories is remarkable, as is his deep love of the North.
A farmer's assistant for $2 a day, a grain buyer, and ultimately a school administrator, Arthur Karras no longer hunted when he returned to civilization but continued to fish. The writing of North to Cree Lake occupied his thoughts for many years.Karras lived in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, with his wife and two sons, and wrote one other non-fiction book.
